WE TV is Westmore’s student broadcasting crew, which produces video morning announcements that are shared across the school. The club has been evolving since 2017 under the direction of Mrs. Chambers, Westmore’s Assistant Principal. Mrs. Rudden, Westmore’s Library Teacher, came on board this year to help lead this talented group of approximately 50 Wildcats.
All 4th and 5th grade students are invited to sign up at the beginning of the year, as long as they are committed to working hard and following Westmore’s School Charter. The students give up part of their lunch/recess block two or three days per week to work on their segments.
Fifth grade students who have prior WE TV experience help lead teams as Producers and Editors. Kathleen Bolan, Lead Editor, shared that being part of the group helps members to become confident in themselves, follow directions, and learn how to collaborate better with others. Camryn Ketelson, Producer, notes, “I felt embarrassed on camera when I first began and now I feel proud of myself.” WE TV has been a beneficial addition to our school, providing students with a great opportunity to learn new skills and create meaningful content for an authentic audience.
