On the evening of April 4th, Westmore students were invited to participate in an evening of science activities. Students had opportunities to explore how sound can be used to topple towers, create elephant toothpaste, launch marshmallows via a cannon, and even use a simulator to fly airplanes. These, and so many more neat science activities, were made possible by the Westmore Elementary School PTA.
STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, teaches students to think critically and be innovative. This night was all about inspiring students to explore their curiosity by experimenting, asking questions, and problem-solving.
Close observers could hear the oohs and ahhs as students visited stations. From afar, an observer could watch as students returned to their favorite stations to further investigate the opportunity. As students explored the 20+ stations they gathered signatures for their science passports. Completed science passports were used as raffle entries for a variety of STEM-related prizes.
Events like these cannot prosper without volunteers, thank you to our PTA, community organizations, staff, and current and previous families and students for making this night such an enjoyable experience.
